Let me share my story so you get what I'm saying and why I feel inadequate today, but yet so incredibly grateful and okay with it.
Jocelynn and I were chatting this morning on the way to church. She was excited to be able to go to her class (Nursery) so that's where our conversation turned. Here's how it went:
"Joce, what do you do in your class?" I asked.
"Eat snacks," she said, "Mmm...and drink water."
"Sounds good, what else do you do?"
"Sing songs!" she answered. (this girl is always singing)
"You do love your songs! What else?"
"Play with toys...bears and elephants!" (animals that she loves but so random because she's KNOWN for loving her babies in Nursery)
"That's so much fun. Don't you learn about Jesus too?" I asked.
"YEAH, HE'S MY FAVOUITE.....HE LOVES ME," she answered.
And then it hit---a humbling lesson from a 2 year old. She is a mighty spirit and I'm supposed to be raising her?!!! Now, I know logic can come in and that she's only 2 and may not fully understand who He is or what she's saying, and yada yada yada,... BUT, she said it. She said it without prompting and she knows more than you'd think. The spirit speaks truth and she did leave the veil a lot more recently than I did. He's HER favorite. A friend came up after Sacrament meeting, where I shared this experience, and she made this comment, "I always joke that I'm the Lord's favorite, because I'm soooo blessed! But, I've never turned it around to say that Christ is MY favorite." Little Jocelynn has it right, He needs to be our favorite.
She didn't stop there though, she said "He loves me." This was a tender mercy moment as well. We've been praying with her every night that she'll know she's loved by us and Him. This is such a crucial thing to know for each of us as we grow and go through so many things in life. We are loved by the greatest being that ever walked this Earth, by its Creator, our Savior and Elder Brother, who was without fault! Why shouldn't He be our favorite? I hope she can keep this knowledge and I know that she'll understand it more and feel it even more as she grows.
Justin and I are raising a mighty spirit and I'm an inadequate mother. I do love the Lord, and He is a priority, but He definitely should be more of one more often in my life. I don't deserve to raise such an incredible little girl, but am so grateful for the opportunity. I know that as I make Him MY favorite more often, then He'll compensate for what I lack, and she will have the upbringing her strong spirit needs.
